A U.K. based writer, comedian, actor, producer, and failed politician, Ben Fletcher was born in Chelmsford, Essex in 1996 and is part Jewish.
Declared by LADbible in 2015 to “probably deserve a knighthood” for attempting to have right-wing columnist and self-parody Katie Hopkins swapped out of the UK for 50,000 refugees, Fletcher has since built up a solid compilation of comedy and satirical work with the intention of mocking and lampooning deserving targets on the far-right and those who share hate.
With a strong focus on political satire, his comedy work has included writing TRUMPED: An Alternative Musical, a four-act show satirising the presidency of Donald Trump, a parody version of Trump Jr’s Triggered, and writing for and performing at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Previously, Fletcher was a member of the Conservative Party in the U.K. where he was a candidate in the 2015 local elections. While unsuccessful, he nevertheless managed to secure the party’s still current largest ever vote count in the seat. Since 2016, he has not been a member of any party.
Fletcher voted remain in the 2016 referendum on EU membership, and since 2019 has consistently voted Green. In the 2020 London mayoral election, he actively campaigned for the Green Party in London.
In addition to his satirical work, Fletcher is also currently working on a number of other projects, including an original comedy play following the life of Fidel Castro, a musical set in Ireland, and various writing projects. Since 2020, Fletcher has been a member of the Dramatists Guild of America.
